The opening day of the much-anticipated Polo Rider Cup tournament, held at the Polo Club of Chantilly on June 10, witnessed some astounding matches among the Day 1 contenders.
Hong Kong Polo faced Hamburger Polo Club for the first game, followed by Polo Club de Chantilly against Polo Club Düsseldorf, and concluded with Moscow Polo Club meeting Polo Park Zürich.
In the first game of the day, Hong Kong Polo, with Edouard Costes (0), Thierry Vetois (3), Adrien Le Gallo (3), and Brieuc Rigaux (6), took the win against Hamburger Polo Club, composed of Caesar Crasemann (4), Heinrich Dumrath (4), Caspar Crasemann (4), and Daniel Crasemann (0), by 12 to 8 goals. Hong Kong scored a total of 10 penalty goals, and the team was led by Brieuc, who scored 9 goals.
The day’s second match saw Chantilly Polo Club, with members Sam Sztarkman (1), Martin Joaquin (5), Jota Chavanne (5), and Alex Sztarkman (1), winning against Polo Club Düsseldorf, with Otto Blank (0), Jesús Bordoni (2), Adrián Laplacette (6), and Miguel Amieva (4), by 8 to 7 in an exciting extra chukker. At the end of the fourth chukker, Düsseldorf, which was behind the score by 4 goals, managed to equal the game in the fifth chukker and forced an extra one. In the final chukker, Chantilly Polo Club missed three penalty faults, but in the end, Jota managed to score the victory goal from the field.
Polo Park Zürich, composed of Richard Harris (0), Elena Venot (1), Min Podesta (7), and Carlos Solari (4), defeated Moscow Polo Club, with Gleb Fetisov (0), Misha Rodzianko (2), Simon Zavaleta (5), and Edouard Pan (5), by 11 to 6 in the last game of the day. Min performed a great game, scoring three consecutive goals at the beginning of the first chukker and 7 goals in total.
