The 11th edition of the Pink Polo Day will kickstart the pulsating new season of the Ghantoot Racing and Polo Club (GRPC). The annual charity event is dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer in Abu Dhabi.
Established as the Middle East’s and UAE’s only royal club, which offers world-class polo and equestrian facilities, GRPC will once again be buzzing with action-packed polo matches. Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Falah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Pink Polo Day will mark the resumption of sports activities at the world-class facility.
The Pink Polo Day will be held on November 6, Friday, and will be the first polo match on the club’s busy calendar. The club will strictly follow the COVID-19 protocols and safety regulations laid down by the UAE government.
GRPC’s executive director Zayed Khalifa Zayed Al Aboudi Al Zaabi says, “The strategic goal of the Pink Polo Day is to spread breast cancer awareness among the society. Using its social media channels, the club raised awareness and highlighted the disease’s increased risk factors. The campaign was supervised by the expert group of our medical team, motivational speakers, and public figures.”
“The campaign also included several virtual awareness activities. We published educational posts that motivate women to adopt healthy lifestyles to prevent cancer and to create an educated society aware of the risks of disease,” he adds.
He explains their advocacy further, “The activity is in line with the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention’s strategy to promote healthy lifestyles and deliver comprehensive and integrated healthcare services. These will be done in innovative and sustainable ways to improve the outcomes and reduce cancer mortalities, which is one of the National Agenda goals of the UAE Vision 2021.”
The national agenda emphasizes the importance of preventive medicine and seeks to reduce cancer and lifestyle-related diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases to ensure a longer, healthy life for UAE citizens.
The teams playing against each other for the upcoming cup are the Ghantoot Polo A, with Abduallah Bin Desmal, Nassser Al Shamsi, Fahad Al Qubaisi, and Manuel Toccalino on the lineup, and the Ghantoot Polo B, composed of Faris Al Yabhouni, Yousif Bin Desmal, Ali Al Merri, and Miguel Delia.
