First Polo Canada Women’s Invitational This August

Toronto Polo Club First Polo Canada Women’s Invitational

On August 27 at Bancroft Farm, the Toronto Polo Club will host their first annual Polo Canada Women’s Invitational Tournament.

Toronto Polo Club has played host to Polo for the Cure for the last 15 years. This will be the first year that Toronto has held two ladies polo tournaments on the schedule. It’s a testament to the strength of the Toronto women’s polo community’s growth over the past few years.

Crystal DiRosa, one of the tournament organizers, comments, “Watching the world of women’s polo growing globally, we knew this was the time to make this tournament happen here at Toronto. This is an opportunity for us to promote our up and coming players and to support women in polo at all levels, unifying us in our common goal of playing great women’s polo.

This year’s edition of the Polo Canada Women’s Invitational will take place over the course of the afternoon on the day. It will also feature two games with a divot stomp, sponsored by Prestige World Realty, in between the two games. A traditional argentine asado will follow the games.

Sponsors have come out in full force to support the event and it couldn’t have been made possible without the help of all of them. The four team sponsors are Engel and Voelkers York Region, Lynnrose Stables, Slurpmix/Laneway Distillers, and Ferrari and Associates.

Lead Organizer Emily Hurst shares her delight in staging the tournament. She says, “It’s unbelievable – the support we’ve seen from businesses both local to Toronto and those associated with polo around the world. We’re so excited to be able to show this new audience what these girls can really do and how much fun an afternoon at polo can really be!”

The growth in the number of women playing polo in the last few years has led to the increase in the sheer volume of women’s polo tournaments popping up all over the world. Canada is no exception. “The hope is for this tournament to become a template for other polo clubs in Canada to follow when hosting their own Polo Canada Women’s Invitational tournaments next season. In effect, this creates a series of ladies polo tournaments spanning the country,” she adds.

The proceeds of the tournament will go towards developing women’s polo in Canada through Polo Canada. The event has hopes of someday being able to form a national level women’s team.
