Casa Wilson, an enchanting and charming old home situated in the spectacular fishing village of Zapallar, in Chile.
Located on a beautiful stretch of coast just under two hours from Santiago, you can enjoy the calm and views both out to sea and across the beach of Zapallar. Within walking distance to anywhere in the village you can relax, leave your car keys behind and get about on foot or by bicycle.
The house has eight unique bedrooms, twins and double rooms, some with balconies and all with en suite bathrooms and fabulous sea views. With the Pacific Ocean at your feet you are never far from the sound of the waves hitting against the rocks and the fresh sea air.
On arrival one immediately feels at home with the relaxed and informal atmosphere, drinks on the terrace, entertaining stories from your hosts or simply sipping a cup of tea watching the sun set.
Casa Wilson organises bespoke polo holidays with the infrastructure of two polo clubs nearby. Samuel Moreno, the owner of Casa Wilson, has played both internationally and locally throughout his career. He organises, with fellow acclaimed players such as Martin and Cote Zegers, holidays, chukkas, and lessons in the Club de Polo Ocoa and the Club Ecuestre de Cachagua. Polo can also be arranged for novices and seasoned players alike.
The Club de Polo Ocoa is based around half an hour’s drive away and transport is provided. The polo grounds are overshadowed by the National Park of Cerro La Campana, which is a striking backdrop to the polo grounds.
The Club Ecuestre de Cachagua sits adjacent to the beach of Cachagua which is five minutes’ drive from Casa Wilson. Once again, a fabulous backdrop to the grounds. The season there is perfect for the summer months – November to March, although for more experienced players, tournaments are also organised for the National holidays and the 18th September long weekend.
The beauty of being based in Casa Wilson is that there is plenty to do aside from playing polo. You can relax on the beach of Zapallar, walk down the coastal path to the beach of Las Cujas or Cachagua or trek or cycle into the hills. There are horse rides that can be organised with asados, boating expeditions, fishing trips, surfing and diving classes off the Isla Penguinos, and hand gliding for the more adventurous, off the cliffs in Maitencillo; all of these activities close to the polo grounds. For a quieter time you can enjoy some shopping in Zapallar’s beautiful and delightful boutiques.
For those that still have energy in the evening, there are a number of well-known restaurants just next door, such as the Chiringuito of Zapallar, or the Cesar. The seafood is complimented with a superb selection of wines. Within a short drive you can find Los Coirones that looks out over the Isla Penguinos, or venture a little further to Punta Mai in Maitencillo. The day is tailored to your needs. Everything can be organised around your requirements, the number of people in your group and your level of play.
Breakfast is a must at Casa Wilson. If the day is fine you will enjoy the delicious spread out on the terraces and for cooler days – inside. Breakfast is served between 8.30am-10.30am.
Following breakfast, there is generally some free time and then off for a lesson or a practice time of stick and ball. For the more advanced players, chukkas will be organised in advance. Of course, any interest in participating in tournaments has to be agreed and formalised with additional notice.
