A Scarf Is The Perfect Holiday Topper

Regina Schrecker

If one has to find a piece that will create a “total look”, fashion designer Regina Schrecker will tell you that a scarf will be all you need. Back in the day, the complete garb wasn’t much of a big thing—but she knew she had to work on it.

“When I started to be a fashion designer, I simply knew that I had to create a “total look” fashion. We were in the ‘80s and very busy building our strong image of business women. We just didn’t have time to shop around!” she muses. And so with the idea of having a versatile item that will make your outfit look dressed up or down in a jiffy, Regina found the solution in scarves.

Taking inspiration from the likes of Grace Kelly or Jackie Kennedy, the creative wanders in the image of “lovely silk scarves slung around their necks with tousled hair spinning in the wind while driving along in open sport cars!” Using natural fiber or handmade, eco-friendly fabrics, her mission isn’t just to weave beauty in threads, but also to live green. “We need extremely good raw materials so we can overcome the bad habit of “too-fast fast fashion”, which is mostly cheap because of overproduction and labor forces that are exploited and underpaid,” she points out.

Regina doesn’t stop there—her passion for fashion goes beyond the glitz and glamour. Apart from going green, she also believes in giving back. “I did these big, colorful scarves as a gift for the hospital workers during the first COVID outbreak!” the designer shares. “It was supposed to be a grateful thank-you for them, who had worked so hard to save us from this terrible pandemic nobody knew how to cure.”

Now, her designs are seen everywhere—which even made its appearance in polo events! However, whoever wears her creations are all special to her. “Any girl or woman from any size or skin color is my favorite personality!” she says.

With the upcoming holidays, amping up your look with a scarf is all you need to upgrade your look from drab to fab. Regina offers some advice on how to play around with this versatile accessory!

First is the classic move of tying it around your neck. If you want some glam on your tresses, she suggests wrapping a section of the scarf to your hair! To maximize its being an accessory, it can also be used as a belt or tied to your bag handles.

If you’re brave enough to actually wear it, Regina recommends using it as a cover up or perhaps wear it draped around like an actual top! “There are really so many ways to wear a scarf that it becomes the most versatile accessory,” the designer says. “Every outfit will look new and different!”
