Al Habtoor Polo Club officially kicked off its polo season with the anticipated Ladies Charity Cup 2022. In its fourth year, the exhibition cup highlighted the strength of women in polo. The event supports the Al Jalila Foundation and Brest Friends during breast cancer awareness month.
The pink-themed event gathered spectators for an afternoon of exciting polo and fun activities with fantastic prizes for a few lucky guests.
The Pink Warriors and Pink Soldiers faced each other in the first half, with Khalid Bin Drai scoring the first goal of the season. The teams were at a tie by halftime with one goal each.
The Pink Soldiers eventually took the lead by the end of the third chukker. The team carried its two-goal advantage all the way to the end and nicked the victory at 5 to 3.
The next match was between the defending champion—Hesketh Polo and AM Polo. Her Highness Sheikha Alia Al Maktoum opened the game with a goal for AM Polo, and by halftime, the team was ahead by half a goal.
The penultimate chukker was a rush for Hesketh Polo to close in on its opponent; however, AM Polo kept its lead. The final chukker saw Lee Slimming nick one goal for Hesketh, but AM Polo managed to nail the last goal. They stole the win at 5 to 3.5.
Philippe D’Amat awarded the teams of the day with Her Highness Sheikha Alia Al Maktoum as the Most Valuable Player. Zuma, a 10-year old Argentine mare ridden by Lee Slimming, is awarded as the Best Playing Pony.
The club also hosted a Charity Auction for the benefit of Al Jalila Foundation. The auction featured exquisite pieces from Mira South Sea Pearls, LLOTT Jewellery, and works of art from Lilo Dell’uttri and Eng. Khalid Alzayani. Valuable polo memorabilia signed by polo superstars such as Pablo Mac Donough, Richard Mille, Facundo Sola and Hillario Ulloa, were also showcased at the auction.
