Here’s a look at the eventful 2022 edition of Agua Alta Polo Tournament staged at the Careyes Polo Club.
Careyes was created from the initial imagination of the visionary Italian artist and businessman Gianfranco Brignone. He first visited this majestic place in 1968, when it was still inaccessible and found hidden under the lush nature.
As one of the most exclusive villa destinations in Mexico with a Mediterranean touch, it now embraces more than 35,000 acres, including the Biosphere Reserve. The destination features a diverse community of personalities who bring it to life, with its natural beauty, architecture, and symbiotic lifestyle.
Careyes is located between Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. It first welcomed guests in 1976, with colorful hospitality options and a spectacular year-round climate. Its current owners have ensured the creation of a sustainable destination. It boasts of a limited housing density within a protected natural reserve, along with social responsibility and actions towards the local population.
Careyes represents more than a place—it is a lifestyle. Among the endless number of unique activities present are the range of internationally recognized polo tournaments. There are two Bermuda regulation size courses open from November through April since 1990.
As part of this unique and exclusive offer, the Careyes Polo Club hosts one of the highest-level events in Mexico, the Agua Alta Polo Tournament. Founded by Alberto Ardissone in 2000, the tournament has become the venue for the best Mexican and international polo teams.
Every year, high-level players from clubs in Europe, the United States and Mexico flock to the club to participate. It simply started as an anniversary celebration. Now, the tournament has become a reference in the international polo industry among renowned players and sponsors.
This 22nd edition of Agua Alta was the most anticipated polo tournament of the year, as it paid tribute to the late founder of Careyes, Gianfranco Brignone. At the same time, it is a collective effort between the Italian Embassy, the Italian Chamber of Commerce, and renowned Italian brands such as Bvlgari, Campari, and Ferrari Trento to show the Italian style and essence during the week of the event.
This year, the GQ Los Hermanos team, led by the Falk Family, were victors. The name of the team was originally created by brothers Chris and Will Falk to pay homage to their late brother Josh, who passed away many years ago at 18. The Falk family has competed in Aua Alta for more than a decade and made it to the finals several times. They make history in the latest edition as the new champs of the tournament.
The club partnered with Polo House Privé to provide a Mexican and international “savoir faire” in the world of luxury.
The week of the Agua Alta Tournament summarizes the essence of Careyes in an iconic phrase, “when Italy meets Mexico”. Eight teams played in five games, with the final on April 16. More than 160 horses and the participation of more than six nationalities are represented in the event.
Careyes is happy to announce that the first two weeks of April 2023 will be fully dedicated to the world of horses. Not only will there be a polo tournament during the Easter week holiday, but also a jumping tournament. Both events will have their parties and exclusive experiences, uniting the extraordinary equestrian passion with a family and friends reunion in a unique destination.
